Al di Meola performed with Chick Corea aged 19, enjoyed groundbreaking success as a soloist with Elegant Gypsy and broke all records with the classic track Friday Night in San Francisco in the seminal guitar trio with John McLaughlin and Paco De Lucia. His playing is characterised by a precise, bright tone, often enhanced with plenty of guitar synth, and complex, syncopated rhythm and phrasing with refined harmonies.
