Flower Power Festival 2023 – Munich in a Floral Frenzy

The festival’s extensive, varied programme includes exhibitions, theatre performances, concerts, readings, discussions, conferences, happenings, guided tours city walks, and workshops.

As the festival’s home base, the Gasteig HP8 will burst into bloom from 3 February: the Munich video collective We Are Video will present Florescent, a hands-on art installation specially designed for the festival, in Hall E. Using body movements, visitors can change the AI-generated floral motifs on an interactive LED wall. Florescent will run for the entire duration of the festival at Gasteig HP8.

The annual Der Gasteig brummt! children’s music days on 3 and 4 March also take up the floral theme. Together with participating children, street artist Krina Königsmann will paint gigantic flower and leaf designs on the asphalt on the grounds of the Gasteig HP8 using spray chalk and home-made liquid chalk. Come and join in the buzz!

In April, the interdisciplinary collective Die Städtischen opens the “culture island” on Am Kulturkraftwerk square in front of the Gasteig HP8, where visitors are invited to hang out on creative wooden seating and join in the gardening and harvesting activities in the raised beds.

The Long Night of Music on 6 May at the Gasteig HP8 is also adding a dose of flower power. Among its several stages, there will be a Flower Power stage, where psychedelic blues, bluegrass and young folk formations will conjure up the spirit and hippie feel of the ‘70s.

The hugely popular dance event Tanz den Gasteig on 3 June will also take place in the name of flower power this year: Accompanied by 1970s music, flower- and nature-themed songs and compositions and more, you’ll be dancing on the Gasteig’s stages, in its rooms and outdoor spaces. There’s something there for every age and every taste.

Hall E will once again be in full bloom when the Silberne Rose Bavarian championship of florists takes place there on 16 and 17 September. Following the exhibition, there will be a public exhibition of the 20 or so contestants’ entries in Hall X.
